Stock Issue Requests

Overview

There are multiple ways to issue Stock Items (parts) to a Work Order.  On the Work Order, the Issue Stock Item button can be invoked from the highlights panel.  Similarly, on a Stock Item record page, the New Inventory Transaction button can be invoked, and an Issue transaction can be performed and a Work Order number selected.  A more streamlined approach, however, is to generate a Stock Issue Request (SIR).  This is especially true when the Work Order includes Planned Stock and/or control of the Storeroom and its contents is managed by a storeroom clerk or MRO inventory manager.  An SIR can serve as a “pick ticket” for the storeroom.

Considerations

  1. An SIR can have one or more SIR Line Items, which describe the Stock Item, the Requested Quantity, the Issued Quantity, the On Hand Quantity, and the Primary Bin Location.
  2. An SIR is Storeroom-specific.
  3. A Work Order can have more than one SIR, for one or more Storerooms.
  4. A Create SIR button appears on the Work Order highlights panel only when the Work Order is in a status of Ready to Schedule, Scheduled, or In Progress and there are open Planned Stock lines with the Commit Inventory attribute checked (default value).
  5. An SIR can also be created from the Work Order Related List, as well as the Stock Issue Requests tab.  Work Order is not a required field, and the status of the Work Order (if selected) is not relevant.
  6. An SIR Line Item can have only one Issue transaction recorded against it.  If the Issued Quantity against the line is less than the Requested Quantity, an additional SIR Line Item will automatically be created with the remaining Requested Quantity.
  7. When the status of an SIR is Completed, no further changes to its status can be performed.
  8. Users can (optionally) create a Salesforce Approval Process for SIRs if business requirements dictate.

Example 1

A Preventive Work Order created by a PM schedule (or a well-planned Corrective Work Order) will typically have Planned Stock.  In the following example, the Work Order is in a status of Ready to Schedule, thus the Create SIR button is exposed.  Since both Planned Stock items are from the same Storeroom, one SIR is created with two SIR Line Items.

Example 2

This Corrective Work Order has no Planned Stock, but the mechanic determines he needs two oil seals.  He creates, then navigates to, a Stock Issue Request for the Storeroom called Plant 1.  When the mechanic invokes the New SIR Line Item button, a Lightning Web Component displays all Stock Items for this Storeroom.  He chooses the correct item and enters a Requested Quantity.  This step can be repeated to add additional SIR Line Items to the SIR.

Issuing Stock Items from an SIR

The following example illustrates how Stock Items may be issued from an SIR.  The first line is issued in full and is a typical bulk stock inventory item.  The next line issued is for a serialized inventory item.  Because serialized Stock Items are also treated as Assets, the user must select a specific asset tag (or serial number).  The last issue depicted is a partial issue.  In the closing frames we can see that a fourth SIR Line Item was automatically created with the remaining Requested Quantity.  If the Primary Bin Location was exhausted of its inventory by the partial issue, the fourth SIR line could be fulfilled from a secondary bin (if applicable).
