Oct 9, 2014– AssetOptics, a leader in cloud-based CMMS/EAM solutions, today announced that it has teamed with operations and maintenance (O&M) services firm Power Factors LLC to deliver a solar-power-specific, automated maintenance monitoring, scheduling and alerting system. For the solution, Power Factors integrated the maintenance management system functions of AssetOptics into a real-time asset performance monitoring platform based on OSI Soft’s best-in-class software. The completed solution drives efficiency and profitability improvements for Power Factors’ customers.

“We do real-time operations management for solar power plant owners, including monitoring, maintenance and performance optimization,” said Steve Hanawalt, a founding partner of Power Factors. “Now that we have integrated Asset Optics’ automated maintenance management solution with our asset performance platform, we can automatically generate work orders, query contractual entitlements and generate plant-level reporting with no human intervention; all based on the ability of our system to remotely monitor multiple systems and detect anomalies.”

With the solution Hanawalt and his team developed, Power Factors’ system monitors its customers’ plants in real time, recognizes pre-set triggers and then connects with AssetOptics to generate appropriate actions and customized workflows without intervention. The Power Factors system then notifies the customer of the operational event, the resulting action item and the associated economic impact.

“Prior to forming Power Factors, Steve Hanawalt was global head of O&M at SunPower, where he was responsible for commissioning and managing more than 600 plants,” said AssetOptics Founder Mike Edwards. “Steve and his team utilized this extensive knowledge base to architect a solution to drive tangible benefits to Power Factors’ customers.”

“This application of AssetOptics’ flexible and configurable tool set is an excellent example of how AssetOptics works with its customers to build high-value solutions,” Edwards concluded.

Before Power Factors’ development of its custom offering, the monitoring and maintenance-tracking functions of these plants’ operations were usually completely siloed, with tracking and recordkeeping managed by hand or through a spreadsheet.

“If a customer has hundreds of commercial obligations in the plant, they used to need personnel to monitor and manage those operational issues and take action,” said Hanawalt. “We are making our customers’ solar plants more profitable by taking the labor costs out of the equation and using IT to make operations more efficient. I don’t think anyone else in the industry is offering what we do.”
